Cabrini: The Woman Who Showed Us That the World Wasn’t Big Enough

November 13th is a day to remember an absolute legend, a woman who dared to do what seemed impossible and left an indelible mark on the world—Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini. But let's call her Cabrini, like we're old friends, because her story resonates with so many of us today. Cabrini wasn’t just a religious sister; she was a powerhouse, a visionary who saw the world as her playground and set out to change it, one act of kindness at a time.

The Fearless Journey of Cabrini

Born in Italy in 1850, Cabrini was the youngest of thirteen children, and from the get-go, she was told "no" more times than we can count. But like any strong-willed woman, she took those “no’s” and turned them into stepping stones. Cabrini wanted to be a missionary in China, but when the Pope told her to head west instead of east, she didn’t sulk—she packed her bags for New York and founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. What’s more, she did all of this in a world that wasn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for women in leadership.

Cabrini’s legacy goes beyond helping immigrants and founding schools, hospitals, and orphanages; it’s about breaking barriers and showing us that there’s no room for small dreams. And if you’re wondering just how big her dreams were, she once said, “The world is not big enough for what I want to do.”

A Woman's Touch in a Man's World

In the most recent movie about her life, there's a quote that gave me chills. During a conversation with Mayor Gould, who lamented that it was a shame Cabrini was a woman because she "would have made an excellent man," she responded with the kind of confidence we all aspire to: "Oh no, Mr. Mayor, men could never do what we do." Talk about a mic drop! This wasn’t just a clever comeback—it was the truth. Cabrini knew that women possess a unique strength, a blend of compassion and resilience that the world desperately needs.

A Heart of Humility

Cabrini was no stranger to challenges, but she never let them harden her heart. One of her most inspiring quotes is, “A single act of humility is worth more than the proud exhibition of any virtue.” This wasn’t just a motto; it was how she lived her life. Whether she was caring for the sick, educating children, or fighting for the rights of immigrants, Cabrini did it all with humility and grace.

The Cabrini Movie: A Must-Watch

If you haven’t yet, grab some popcorn and watch the Cabrini movie directed by Alejandro Monteverde with Cristiana Dell'Anna. It’s not just informative; it’s moving and downright inspiring. The trailer alone had me in tears! The film beautifully captures her unyielding spirit and her incredible achievements, reminding us that one person really can make a difference. You can watch the trailer here and see for yourself why her story still resonates today.

What We Can Learn from Cabrini

Cabrini’s story isn’t just history; it’s a lesson for all of us. It’s about resilience, compassion, and the power of dreaming big—really big. She showed us that there’s no such thing as “too ambitious” and that our greatest strength lies in our ability to serve others.

At RitmoFit XP, we draw inspiration from legends like Cabrini. Her dedication to helping others and her belief in the power of community are at the heart of what we do. We invite you to join us in our classes and programs, where we channel the same energy and passion that Cabrini had. After all, just like Cabrini, we believe that the world is big enough for all of our dreams—and then some.
